New Species of Dart Frog Discovered
Scientists discovered this beautiful ¾" amphibian in February 2007 during a survey of the cloud forests in central Colombia. It has the typical look of frogs in the Dendrobates genus and is mostly golden-yellow with black arms and legs. For now, it is called the Supatá golden frog and is found in only one small area about the size of 10 city blocks. Because it lives in such a small fragment of cloud forest, this frog is under serious threat from habitat destruction for farming and cattle ranching. |
